911 call

Lyle Menendez called 911 at 11:47 p.m. and emotionally told the operator that he had just come home and discovered his parents’ dead bodies. Erik could be heard screaming and crying in the background.

Judges commonly instruct jurors that the tape recording itself is best evidence of the conversation, and the transcript is only to assist the jurors in listening to the tape, following along as the tape is being played.
